The 13th annual Art Exhibition at BVH ran from Saturday 27th July to Sunday 4th August, from 10.30am to 5pm daily.
The scale of our exhibition is now considerable with 147 artists displaying some 513 paintings as well as 17 artists who also entered cards and prints. There were, over the period of the exhibition, some 80 people who helped on one or more occasions including 6 artists who came and spent time painting. There were also many people who brought cakes to the refreshment room which was so successful. The sale of the raffle tickets was quite extraordinary as it largely represented the work of one member of the committee. The success of the exhibition lies with all the people who in some way contributed their time and skills.
The exhibition was a success on two levels:
Firstly, the fact that so many people simply enjoyed the experience and many expressed their thanks and appreciation for the event. As a community activity it was a great success. The standard of entry was very high and we were able to display the work more effectively this year, with cards & prints upstairs and all the original paintings downstairs.
Secondly, the statistics of the event were as follows.
Number of visitors including the preview: 820
Number of pictures/prints sold: 131
Number of cards sold: 560
Over half of the artists sold one or more paintings;
23% of all the original paintings on show were sold
Visitors to the exhibition were asked to vote for their favourite pieces of art on display and the results were:
Sophie Hedgecoe 'Pride across the Plains' (catalogue no.240)
Janet Carden 'Labrador retrieving Duck (catalogue no. 99)
Janet Carden 'Three Shires' (catalogue no. 100)
The raffle draw was held on Sat 3rd August and the 7 winners have been notified. So if you haven't heard from us, I'm afraid you didn't win!
